Welcome to The Strange (Zombie Planet) our new Obsidian Portal page for The Strange. To get started I’d like to provide a few of my expectations for all of us to make this a successful campaign.
-—————————————————————————————————-
To begin with like Starwars, The Strange Campaign setting is very story driven. Unlike other campaigns (as you’ll read about in the players guide) in this one the players (You) make all the rolls and the rules are fairly simple (even for character creation). You are a noun who verbs…

At this point I would like everyone to read thorough the players guide provided here, come up with a character and post it here or email/sent it to me on Obsidian Portal (More on this in a bit). Once I have all your characters I can begin planning the first session.
Unlike some games we’ve played, this one is very discovery story driven. As the players you get basically no information and in order for the game to be the most fun that’s the way you want it to stay. What this means is in order to get the most out of your experience stick to what I tell you and don’t go looking for/reading game materials that I don’t provide (Read the player’s guide that’s it).

On the topic of the player’s guide I have removed 2 pages from it this is why the document skips from page 5 to page 8. Do not go looking for the missing pages they will provided to you on/around the first session.

On the subject of the Campaign overall….I’d like two try two different things. First, I’d like to try having everyone stay in character more…what I mean is to tone down the meta gaming. For example, if Scott is looking to concentrate fire on a target in character he shouts or otherwise indicates the plan to Jeff’s character. Or when Justin does something absurd his character is abused in character by a party member rather than Justin himself. I’ve listened to a number of podcasts where different Campaigns do this and it sounds very amusing for everyone. Second, I’d like to try for a more real feeling. What I mean by this is having an environment where the characters will actually be in danger vs a DND healing surge and forget environment. I’m not talking about killing characters just something a bit more gritty rather than the everyone is mortal and ensured a good ending.

Moving on…when creating a character you’ll need to select background options. Feel free to use the format given to make up your own backgrounds and advancement as well as those in the book. If you make up your own just run it by me. At this point I think we can all do this without a problem so I don’t see any overall issues for making a unique character background.
-————————————————————————————————-
When creating a character you’ll be asked to select a focus. All foci must be unique (No repeats) so you may want to discuss your character concepts. Optionally, we could run this as first come first serve for selecting your original foci and then select foci in the reverse order when it becomes necessary to do so (you select new foci when moving to other worlds). This would be another way of keeping it fair. When you read the player’s guide and select your foci you’ll be initially limited to earth related foci (The ones with a blue planet icon over them). The others are Arden and Ruk related foci and not available at the start of the campaign (Fantasy/Si-Fi related).

I’ll start a discussion for character creation and one for questions in the forum section. Otherwise have at, discuss, and I look forward to killing you a…I mean running this campaign.
